There are different type of tertiary institution, medical schools and vocational schools are put of them.
In recent time, the Federal ministry of education carved a type of universities that is basically meant for students studying technological courses.
There are diverse technology universities in Nigeria but alot of students don’t know which one to choose from that’s I wrote this article to list out the technology schools we have in Nigeria and also their differences.
Federal University Of Technology, Minna
Federal university of technology, Minna popularly known as FUTMINNA is considered to be one of the best technology university in Nigeria.
It is located in Minna, Niger state.
In 2019, FUTMINNA was ranked as the seventh best university in Nigeria by NUC.
The university have a total of 10 faculties and a total of 50+ departments.
One of the great thing about this technology university is that it doesn’t only offer technically courses but also agricultural and life sciences courses like microbiology and biochemistry.
FUTMINNA offer both bachelor’s and master’s degree to their students.
Federal University Of Technology, Owerri
Abbreviated as FUTO, federal university of Owerri has produced one of the best engineers in Nigeria.
FUTO is one of the early technology university in Nigeria, founded in 1980 by the first president of Nigeria Shehu Shagari.
Due to its good name and acceptance, it is relatively hard to secure admission into the school.
Federal University of Technology, Owerri has quite a number of faculties and departments. FUTO has a total of nine colleges which are;

Cross River University Of Technology
CRUTECH is one the newest technology university in Nigeria. It is located in Cross River State and has produced thousands of engineers in the Nigeria labour market.
CRUTECH was formed from three different institutions in 2004, it was merged from Polytechnic, Calabar.
It’s sole aim is to produce individuals who are sound in various areas of technology.
CRUTECH have the following faculties;

LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OGBOMOSO
Also known as LAUTECH is also big name in the Nigeria technology universities.
The university was formed in 1990 and has graduated an estimated number of 100,000 students since its inception. The university admits a total of 5000 students per session and has an average number of 20,000 students presently.
The university runs a diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degree programme across Nigeria different engineering and technical courses.
LAUTECH is considered to be one of the best state university as it has won the award of “Best State University” by NUC for two consecutive times.
LAUTECH doesn’t only offer courses related to engineering or Physics alone but also medical courses, the university has a total of nine faculties namely;

This list will be incomplete if I don’t mention the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
This school has proven itself to stand amongst the best universities in Nigeria and even Africa as a whole with the numerous amount of awards to its name.
FUTA is a technology school strictly for technology courses and does not mix with other science Courses.
The university is located in Akure, Ondo.
The university is aimed towards research, teaching, theories and practical.

Bells university is a private owned university by Bells Educational Foundation in 2005.
Bells university is a university that ensures to give its students quality education that is ICT-driven and at the cutting edge of science and technology.
Most of the technology universities in Nigeria are public schools, Bells university is changing the narrative that not only government owned schools can give quality education on technology and engineering but also private owned universities.
Bells university is still growing and has not started offering some courses hence they only have four faculties which are;

Modibbo Adama University Of Technology, Yola
Modibbo Adama University of Technology is one of the credible university of technology in northern Nigeria and even the country as a whole.
Formerly known as university of technology, Yola. It was founded in 1988, MAUTECH was ranked as one of the top 10 university in Nigeria by the NUC.

Rivers state university of technology has gotten credibility both outside and within Nigeria because of the quality of the students that graduated from the school.
Unlike other university of technology, RSUT gives art students the privelage of studying in the school as they offer courses that can be studied by non-science students. RSUT has a total of seven faculties which are;

ESUT happens to be the last on the list.
Enugu state university of technology is a technology school that does not only offer engineering courses but also non-science courses.

Additional Information
Universities of technology are unique universities and have a slightly different admission process compared to the normal universities.
To get into a university of technology, you’ll have to get a cut-off mark of 200+ (it can be more than this most of the time).
You must also have a minimum of C in English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and other subjects related to your preferred course.
