NYSC is an acronym for National Youth Service Corp. It is a one year program designated by the Nigerian government for university graduates, this program is aimed at helping degree holders to understand the country and to also help them to know how the labour market works in Nigeria.
After registering, youth corpers are then mobilized to a state outside their zone to serve the country, these place is called Place Of Primary Assignment (PPA).

Things To Know About NYSC
Before you’ll be awarded with a NYSC certificate, you’ll have to go through four different segments which are;
- Orientation Courses
- Primary Assignment
- Community Development Service
- Winding – Up/Passing – out
NYSC Orientation Course
This is the first phase in the NYSC which lasts for three week, this stage is primarily meant to make you understand what NYSC stands for, the rules guiding it and also how to carryout your service during the one year program. In this stage, you’ll get to me other Corp members and it also comes with some recreational activities and parades.
The orientation isn’t only to give you mental training but also physical.
Primary Assignment
This is the second phase in the program, in this phase you must have completed the three weeks orientation programme. After getting oriented, you’ll be posted to your primary place of assignment where you are going to primarily serve.
This place is usually connected to your field of study in school.
For example, if you are a graduate of medicine, you’ll most likely be posted to a hospital, clinical or any medical school.
NYSC Orientation Camps for Nigerian Corpers
It’s now time to delve into what brought us here. Below is a list of some NYSC camps you can choose from while going for NYSC.
Niger State Orientation Camp
Niger state is undoubtedly one of the biggest state in Nigeria by landmass and this has made it one of corper’s favourite. If your goal is to meet people of different background and to also serve in the northern part of Nigeria then Niger state orientation camp should be I’m your options.
This camp is secured and also have a medical team to help you in bad situations.
The camp is located in NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Former Abubakar Dada Senior Secondary School, Paiko, Niger State.
Kano State NYSC Camp
Anybody who really knows northern Nigeria knows that Kano state is the commercial hub of the North.
Kano is one of the founding states in Nigeria and is dominated by the Hausa people. Nevertheless, it is a state that welcomes everybody irrespective of where you came from.
One of the reason why you should choose this state is because of the good living conditions there and the good infrastructure it has compare to some other states.
Enugu State Orientation Camp
Enugu is located in the Eastern part of Nigeria is also a commercial place like Kano.
Enugu has good weather condition and is people for people who can’t live in hot places.
This centre has a relaxation center for the corpers to ease you after the stress of training.
Unlike other camps which accommodation looks like an hostel for secondary school students, this center has a bungalow-like houses that can accommodate 20-30 corpers per apartment.
To get to this center is easy even if you’re coming from another state, what you need to do is book Holy Ghost Mass Transit vehicle from where you are and you’ll be transported direct to Enugu.
Enugu NYSC camp is located in NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Kaduna State Nysc Camp
Kaduna state is located in North Western Nigeria. Unlike other northern states, Kaduna state is full of life and very entertaining which makes it an option for many intending corpers.
The camp is located in a secure environment; NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kaduna, Abuja Road.
I have had a conversation with people who served here and I haven’t recorded anything other than a positive review.
Akwa Ibom State Orientation Camp
If you are a lover of recreational activities then you’ll definitely love this camp. This camp was just renovated recently to fit into sports and other programmes that fits into youthful activities.
Akwa Ibom camp has a good accommodation rooms, a fully functional clinic. The orientation camp is located in the city, transportation is very easy because there is a park and an airport very close to a camp.
If you are coming via flight, book a bus or tricycle after landing and then tell the driver to take you to NYSC orientation camp.
This is the exact address of the camp; NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
Federal Capital Territory
This list will be incomplete if I don’t include this orientation camp. This camp is located at Abuja which shares boundaries with Nasarawa state, Niger state and Kogi.
Due to the infrastructure of the capital territory, alot of youth corpers apply to be posted here which makes it competitive.
To be honest with you, this camp can be rated as the best NYSC orientation camp in Nigeria. It has a sport center, a gym and a field for having adventure games.
It also has a very nice hostel with rooms which can accommodate 10-15 corpers.
Abuja orientation camp is located in Kubwa which is a popular place in Abuja.
The camp is located in NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, FCT. Let me give you a description to the camp incase you are a visitor in Abuja. When you get to the park in Jabi, book a taxi to Wuse market. After dropping in Wuse market, book a vehicle to Kubwa market. Once you get to Kubwa market, ask around and you’ll be shown the camp because it is a walkable distance.
Conclusion
After spending three weeks in the orientation camp, you’ll then be appointed to your primary place of assignment. In this place, you’ll work according to what you have studied; you’ll be posted to teach a school if you study an education related course, you can be posted to work in a law firm if you studied law, you can be taken to a research institute or hospital if you studied microbiology, biochemistry or medicine.
Working in your primary place of assignment lasts for eleven months, after the eleventh month, you’ll come back to the orientation camp to be awarded with the NYSC certificate.
