Like every other country, Nigeria have both public and private universities and there are alot of people enrolling into them.
Many students opt in for private universities due to one reason or the other which includes a conducive environment for learning and also high standard of education.
In this post, I’ll be listing out some NUC approved private universities and also give you a little details about each of them.

Ajayi Crowther University
Ajayi Crowther University was named in honor of a early missionary who was part of the people who brought Western education to Nigeria.

Covenant university is considered to be one of the best universities in Nigeria. It was founded by Bishop Oyedepo, the general overseer of Living faith church. It was founded in 2002 at Ota, Ogun state.
Covenant University is known for its strict policy which rewards degree both in character and learning. Although this stat may not be accurate, Covenant University is believed to have an admission rate of 4000-6000 students per session.

JPTS Institute
JPTS is a relatively new university, it was brought in by the Britain to provide quality education at an affordable rate unlike other private institutions. JPTS is a degree awarding institution that has a high admission rate and do not require JAMB UTME to gain admission; you only need to buy the form and sit for the entrance exams.
Babcock University
Babcock University is a popular private university in Nigeria due to the success of the alumnis of the school both in the political, educational and entertainment sector. Babcock University is known to have graduated some of the best music exports out of Nigeria like afrobeats star Davido and BNXN, popular Nigerian actor Olumide Oworu and Speaker Oyo State House of Assembly Debo Ogundoyin.
It founded by Seventh Day Adventist Church in April 1999 Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Babcock university offers about a 100 course across six faculties which includes the faculty of art, science, health sciences, engineering, computing sciences, faculty of education, law and security study and school of nursing.
Edwin Clark University
Edwin Clark University is one of the newly founded universities in Nigeria.
Despite being a new university, Edwin Clark University can be at the top with other old universities. The university have a cozy environment and a good structure, the environment is suitable for people who want to learn in a less populated environment.
Edwin Clark university is a easy school to gain admission into, you just need to meet their cut-off mark and other requirements.
Landmark University
Just like Covenant University, Landmark University is owned by Living faith church by Bishop David Oyedepo. It was ranked as one of the top 20 university in Nigeria. It is located at located at Omu-Aran, Kwara State. The course and faculties are spread abroad ranging from faculty of agriculture; animal science, crop and soil science, agricultural economics. Faculty of engineering; electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and the rare mechatronics engineering.
They also offer courses under the faculty of science and and social sciences; biochemistry, microbiology and physical sciences, economics, accounting and others.
Afe Babalola University
Afe Babalola University is considered to be one of the best private university in Nigeria. It was named and founded after an influential lawyer Afe Babalola in 2009 in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state.
The environment is conducive for learning and have a good study facilities.
The university is not only focused on academics only but also on sports, social life and vocational development.
Afe Babalola University have a total of six faculties which are faculty of engineering, medicine and health sciences, social management and sciences, law, sciences and faculty of engineering.
Bingham University
This list will be incomplete without mentioning this prestigious university.
It is not owned by an individual but an entity; ECWA which means evangelical church winning all.
This school is considered to be one of the top private universities with quite a number of good courses and also good and standard facilities for learning.
The tuition fee is somewhat flexible and the environment is peaceful.
It was founded in 2005 in Nasarawa.
Admission into Bingham university is a little bit competitive, the school allows the admission of foreign students. It is a bachelor’s and master’s degree awarding institution.
Hallmark University
Hallmark university can be seen as the public version of a private university because of it population. Nevertheless, it is also one of the best when it comes to quality education.
The university has an estimated number of 50,000-60,000 students.
Hallmark university is located in Ogun state and has a neutral ownership which means that the school isn’t affiliated to any religious body.
It offers a bachelor’s degree in diverse courses and faculty.
Bells University of Technology
Bells University of Technology so known as BellsTech is a private owned university that followed the academic structure of public universities like FUTA, FUTMINNA and FUTO. It is a university made strictly for science courses especially in the field of engineering.
It was established in 2004 but was officially accredited in 2005.
BellsTech has a total of four faculties which are environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, college of management sciences and college of natural and applied sciences.
How To Get Admission Into A Private University
Apart from knowing these universities, you need to be knowledgeable about how to gain admission into them and study your dream course.
To get admitted into the private universities above, you would have to register for JAMB UTME and select your preferred institution as a first choice.
Every institution have a diverse cut-off mark hence you’ll have to know the cut-off mark for the university you are applying.
Note: Writing JAMB isn’t a requirement for gaining admission into JPTS.
